Seit Anfang 2023 arbeiten zahlreiche Kunst- und Kulturschaffende im denkmalgeschützten Zeughaus 4 auf dem Zürcher Kasernenareal. Mit dem Wegzug der Kantonspolizei wurde das Areal öffentlich zugänglich und wird bis 2026 zwischengenutzt. Von Januar–Mai 2023 schuf das Architekturkollektiv squadra im Obergeschoss des Zeughauses Arbeitsräume für den Verein Maison Shift. Die Räume dienen als Austausch- und Begegnungsort für Modeschaffende, die den Wandel zu einer nachhaltigen Textilbranche antreiben.

Der Gedanke der Nachhaltigkeit ist in den von den Architekt:innen im Selbstbau ausgeführten Planungs- und Bauprozess eingeflossen, der auch die Flexibilität und die konsequente Wiederverwendung von Bauteilen ermöglicht hat. Materialien, die bereits vor Ort vorhanden waren, wurden neu eingesetzt: Die Platten der alten Schiessanlage dienen als Regalböden und Theken. Ehemalige Pneu-Lagerregale wurden zu Wänden und Möbeln. Sämtliche Bauteile können wieder ausgebaut und weitergegeben werden.

Die Badenerstrasse ist eine rund fünf Kilometer lange Strasse im Westen von Zürich. Heute zeugt dieser Korridor von dem Leben und der Aktivität, die ihn seit jeher geprägt haben. Doch trotz der ihr innewohnenden Lebendigkeit lässt die tatsächliche räumliche Qualität und Gestaltung dieses Korridors zu wünschen übrig. Für Radfahrer und Pendler ist es gleichermaßen schwierig, sich in diesem Gebiet zurechtzufinden, da die Radwege unterbrochen sind. Das Trasformationsprinzip schafft ein grünes Netz von Fahrradwegen mit hoher Kapazität, die verschiedene Stadtteile miteinander verbinden. Die Bäume kühlen die Straßentemperaturen in der heißen Jahreszeit, fördern die Artenvielfalt und bieten auch bei Regen Schutz. Kreuzungspunkte mit langsamer Geschwindigkeit ermöglichen die Kreuzung von öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln und Fahrradspuren mit einem reduzierten motorisierten Individualverkehr. Die Kreuzungspunkte sind so klein wie möglich gehalten und folgen den Formen der minimalen Kurve, während gleichzeitig Platz für spezielle Parkplätze für Lieferfahrzeuge geschaffen wird.

Der Gebäudekomplex des Château de Dompierre verlor seine Funktion als landwirtschaftliches Siedlung im XX Jahrhundert. Das Projekt besteht aus gezielten Eingriffen in die bestehenden Gebäude und ihre Umgebung. Ziel ist es das ökologische Gleichgewicht, das auf diesem Grundstück herrschte, wiederherstellen und die Anlage durch verschiedene, sich ergänzende Nutzungen wiederzubeleben: die Ausübung der Permakultur, die Schaffung eines Raumes des Austausch, in dem Konferenzen und Workshops im Natur organisiert werden können, sowie Musik- und Kunstresidenzen.

Das Landhaus in Châtillon wurde im 18. Jahrhundert als erstes Gebäude des Orts gebaut. Es verkörpert die traditionelle ländliche Architektur seiner Zeit und ist typisch für die Region. Fassade und Dach sind im Inventar des Denkmalschutz Kanton Fribourg.

Bis in die Siebzigerjahre wurde es von einer alten Dame mit ihren Ziegen bewohnt. Diese wärmten vom Keller aus das Haus auf. Der Wohnraum bestand aus einer Küche, einem Wohnzimmer und einem Schlafzimmer. Das Dachgeschoss mit seinem Krüppelwalmdach diente als Heulager und Trocknungsraum und war mit einer Treppe von aussen erschlossen.

Seither wird das Haus als Wochenenddomizil der Eigentümerfamilie aus Basel genutzt. Der Innenausbau sollte das Haus wohnlicher machen, den Dachstuhl erschliessen und das Gebäude langfristig erhalten. Die Holzfassade im Dachgeschoss ist als Fensterladen demontierbar. Die äussere Erscheinung des Gebäudes wird so gänzlich beibehalten. Für den Umbau wurde mit traditionellen Materialen des Ortes gearbeitet.

Der Umbau war ein Balanceakt zwischen einer geteilten Vision und der Notwendigkeit, immer wieder auf die vorgefundene Substanz zu reagieren. Gemeinsam mit lokalen Handwerkern, vielen Freunden und Studenten, die praktische Bauerfahrung sammeln wollten, bauten wir die Casa Giuseppina über vier Sommer um. 
Die vielen beteiligten Menschen beleben nun das Haus. Wir sind im Dialog, wie mit weiteren benachbarten verfallenen Häusern umgegangen werden kann und auf welche Weise wir einen Beitrag zum Erhalt der Siedlung leisten können.

Moisture was leaking through the stone walls, the house had not been inhabited for many years.

The rooms offer a modest living.
To cope with the constant humidity from the mountain slope, the bathroom is entirely in tadelakt.
From the bathroom, a small stairway leads to the roof.
The traditional cold stone roof provides additional space in summer.
The constant presence on site allowed to develop specific details for the connections to the found building substance.
The interventions concentrate on the middle floor.

Das Dorf Mosogno di Sotto liegt fernab der Strasse und zählt mehr Häuser als Einwohner. Losgelöst vom mittelalterlichen Dorfkern steht die ehemalige Mühle: die ‹Casetta›.

Zusammen mit vielen Freunden und lokalen Handwerkern wurden die verlassenen Gemäuer zu einem einfachen Wohnhaus umgebaut, in dem man mit den Jahreszeiten lebt. Der Bauprozess war ein Balanceakt. Sämtliche Baumaterialien mussten zu Fuss hinuntergetragen oder mit dem Helikopter eingeflogen werden. Die ständige Präsenz vor Ort erlaubte es, laufend Anpassungen an die vorgefundene Bausubstanz vorzunehmen und nicht dringend zu ersetzenden Bauteile in den Umbau einzubeziehen. Ins Dorf gebracht wurde nur das Notwendigste.

Das Kulturlokal Schwarzer Peter ist ein nichtkommerzieller, inklusiver Kreativ- und Begegnungsort vom Verein für Gassenarbeit Schwarzer Peter auf dem Lysbüchelareal in Basel. Das Kulturlokal wird gemeinsam mit den BesucherInnen vom Schwarzen Peter und ehrenamtlich engagierten Kunst- und Musikschaffenden ganzjährlich partizipativ betrieben. Es werden kulturelle Veranstaltungen wie Ausstellungen oder Konzerte und Workshops angeboten. Das gesamte Angebot kann vom Klientel der Gassenarbeit und allen Interessierten kostenlos genutzt werden.

Das Kulturlokal ist als temporärer Modulbau aus Holz- und Schiffscontainern konzipiert. Die Elemente sind einfach demontierbar und für die Grösse von Lastwagen dimensioniert, damit der Bau in Zukunft einfach auf andere Brachen verschoben werden kann. Die Fenster und Türen stammen aus Abrissgebäuden und dank wiederverwendbaren Schraubenfundamenten fällt kein Bauschutt an.

Seit mehr als 80 Jahren ist der Bauernhof Colombera Teil der Landwirtschaft der Magadinoebene. Wir wurden beauftragt, einen Überblick über den Gebäudekomplex zu erarbeiten, um eine strategische Planung zwischen allen künftigen Eingriffen zu gewährleisten: die Renovation des Bauernhauses und Agrotourismusgebäudes, die Sanierung und Erweiterung der Käserei.

Das Haus, das als Wohnsitz für die Bauernfamilie dient, wird immer unzureichender, um den Bedürfnissen für eine wachsende Familie nach Platz und Komfort gerecht zu werden. Um dafür zu sorgen, dass die zukünftigen Generationen am Standort bleiben, hat sich der Bauernhof Colombera ein Projekt zur Modernisierung und Erweiterung des Wohngebäudes gewünscht, um sich nach der Arbeit besser vom Bauernbetrieb distanzieren zu können. Anstatt einen Neubau zu errichten und die jüngere Generation von der älteren zu trennen, würde erdacht, die Grenzen innerhalb des bestehenden Bauernhauses neu zu definieren. Indem Dachflächen teilweise ausgeschnitten und angehoben werden, kann der Einbau einer neuen Wohneinheit in den bestehenden Dachstock erreicht werden. Die neue Dachwohnung des Mehrgenerationenhauses lässt den Bewohnern die Möglichkeit einer flexiblen Raumaufteilung, so dass sie sich kontinuierlich an die sich ändernden Bedürfnisse anpassen kann.

Er wird durch Handlungen, Möglichkeiten, Wünsche und Bedürfnisse der Bewohnenden geformt. Einen Raum zu bewohnen bedeutet, ihn zu interpretieren, ihn sich anzueignen. Die Architektur bestimmt das Verhältnis zwischen dem Teil, der physisch dauerhaft und unveränderlich ist, und dem Teil, der von denen, die in ihm leben, verändert werden kann.

Unser Projekt besticht weder durch eine ausgefallene Konstruktion noch durch extravagante Materialien, es versucht vielmehr die Empathie zu vermitteln, welche der lange Aufenthalt in einer völlig fremden Gegend in uns ausgelöst hat. Wir haben dort nicht viele Menschen angetroffen, aber diese Begegnungen waren von großer Aufrichtigkeit und Ehrlichkeit geprägt. Das hat uns zu diesem zurückhaltenden, aber respektvollen Entwurf geführt, der versucht, lokale Tradition und Bedürfnisse zu verbinden. Wir haben uns umgesehen und überlegt, was wirklich gebraucht wird und welche Materialien verfügbar sind. Das Leder stammt von einem verunglückten Schafstransporter.

Durch den Kontakt mit der Natur, den Landschaften und ihren Bewohnern wollen wir die Menschen dazu anregen, über die komplexen sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Konflikte nachzudenken, die die Lebenswelt des Mapuche-Tehuelche Volks (Mapuche - Gününa Këna) bis heute prägen. Es gibt keine Zukunft in der Architektur ohne eine versöhnliche Aufarbeitung der Konflikte zwischen Völkern.
